Inspirational People - Edmund Hillary

Walt: use our research to write an essay on an inspirational person.

My Inspirational Person

I have been inspired by many people, but I have chosen Edmund Hillary. I chose him for many reasons. Edmund Hillary was born on July 20th 1919, in Auckland, New Zealand. Edmund Hillary was apart of British Everest Expedition in 1953. It was led by Colonel John Hunt. Hunt chose a selected group of experienced climbers from all around the British Empire. Among the group Edmund Hillary was selected for a climber in New Zealand. After months of planning and organising the expedition began to climb. On the way up the team established nine camps.

Some of which are still used by climbers today. He took up mountain climbing along with Tenzing Norgay. To reach Mt Everest in 1953 Hillary later participated in Expeditions to the South Pole. Edmund was also amongst the first to reach the top Mt. Herschel. He also cultivated resources for the people in Nepal. Edmund Hillary’s first Experience of mountain was in a class trip to Mount Ruapehu.

He went to University for two years, but left to join his father and his two brothers in family beekeeping business. In 1939 Edmund climbed his first mountain (Mt. Oliver) in Southern Alps. In 1953 he joined a British team that was led by Colonel John Hunt. Edmund Hillary had climbed Mt. Everest with his supporter along his side Tenzing Norgay. Now and then people will still remember the things that Edmund Hillary did for the people in Himalayan Mountains.

The reason why I chose Edmund Hillary was because he helped the people in Himalayan Mountains. Edmund Hillary and other helpers from Himalayan people had built their first school ever. He has encouraged the Himalayan people to build 27 schools, 2 hospitals, 12 clinics, an airfield and 7 bridges over raging rivers. The work that the Himalayan people are doing are still working today. That is all  because of Edmund Hillary. Edmund Hillary has inspired me an many many more people.
